ˏrunning 'stream
ˏboiling 'water
ˏliving 'people
ˏchanging 'circumstances
ˏsliding 'doors
the ˏfollowing 'example
a ˏmovmg 'staircase

Первое ударение падает на hard, fast, long в таких примерах как ˏhardworking 'students, ˏfast-moving 'traffic, ˏlong-playing 'records.

a 'bathing ˏcostume = a costume used or intended for bathing (in)
'working ˏclothes = clothes used or intended for working (in)
'writing ˏpaper = paper used or intended for writing (on)
'boiling ˏpoint = point at which a liquid boils
a 'changing ˏroom = room where one changes one's clothes (for sports)
a 'living ˏroom = room where one lives when not sleeping

That is a very/more interesting/exciting/amusing/entertaining story.

The speaker was given a standing ovation.
I can see several people standing (at the back).

English-speaking Canadians (неверно: speaking English Canadians.)
a fox-hunting man
Is that watch self-winding?
quick-growing trees

We can offer you a job cleaning cars.
There's Jack, eating as usual.

The people (who are) sitting here in the sun are tourists.
These tourists, (who are) sitting here in the sun, arrived this morning.

Will anyone who wants/=wanting a ticket please apply to me.
Will the people who are sitting/=sitting at the back please move forward.
The boys who have shouted/who have been shouting/=shouting the loudest are the winners.
The boys who has shouted/who had been shouting/who shouted/who were shouting/=shouting the loudest were the winners.

Wanting a ticket as I do, I shall apply for one at once.
Sitting at the back as we are, we can't hear a word.
Shouting loudly as they were, the boys got quite hoarse.

Who's the girl dancing with your brother? (= ... the girl who is dancing )
Anyone touching that wire will get a shock. (= Anyone who touches )
Half of the people invited to the party didn't turn up. (= ... who were invited ... )

Do you know anybody who's lost a cat? (неверно: Do you know anybody having lost a cat?)

The spectators leapt to their feet and roared approval.
The spectators roared approval and leapt to their feet.

The spectators leapt to their feet, roaring approval.
Roaring approval, the spectators leapt to their feet.
The spectators, roaring approval, leapt to their feet.
Leaping to their feet, the spectators roared approval.
The spectators roared approval, leaping to their feet.
The spectators, leaping to their feet , roared approval.

The spectators leapt to their feet and ran out onto the pitch.

Leaping to their feet, the spectators ran out onto the pitch.
The spectators, leaping to their feet, ran out onto the pitch.

Putting down my newspaper, I walked over to the window. (= After I had put down my newspaper, ... )
Opening her eyes, the baby began to cry. (= When she opened her eyes...)

Leaping over the fence, he caught his hand on a nail (т.е. He caught his hand on a nail as he was leaping .. .).

Sitting here in the sun, we can see snow-covered hills.

(так как такой оборот соответствует придаточному предложению с as, к нему можно добавить as-clause: Sitting here in the sun as I am, I feel thoroughly content.)

Being only a student, I can't afford to get married
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Sitting here in the sun, I still feel cold.

It rained for two weeks on end, completely ruining our holiday.
(= ... so that it completely ruined our holiday.)

Since moving to London, we haven't had time to go to the theatre.
Since we moved to London, we haven't had time to go to the theatre.

When you are writing a business letter, begin 'Dear Sir' →
When writing a business letter, begin 'Dear Sir'.

То же самое можно сделать с союзами while, after, before и since (но не с as, as soon as и till/ until):

While waiting at the dentist's, I read a whole short story.
After reading the story, I did a crossword puzzle.
Before going to the dentist, I have a cup of tea.
Since leaving school, I have never met George again.
After spending so much money on the car, I can't afford a holiday.
Before being changed last year, the speed limit was 70 kph.

I don't need these books now since/=because I've left school.

Being можно употреблять после after, before и since (выражающем время):

After/Before he was/=being in the army, he was an engineer.
Since he was/=being in the army, he has been in much better health.

(‘Since being in the army’ может также означать 'Since he has been in the army')

When we opened the cupboard, we found a skeleton inside.
(On) opening the cupboard, we found a skeleton inside.

While I wastrying to open the door, I broke the key.
(In) trying to open the door, I broke the key.

If/unless (you are) arriving by coach, please let the secretary know.

(Al)though/While impressing the examiners, he nevertheless failed.
While understanding her problem, I don't know how I can help. (= Although I understand...)

While I am not optimistic I have not given up all hope.
While not being optimistic I have not given up all hope.

He moved his lips as if (he were) trying to speak.
He locked the cupboard quickly, as if trying to hide something from us.

You lock this door by turning the key twice to the left

Being unable to help in any other way, I gave her some money.
Not wishing to continue my studies, I decided to hecome a dress designer.
Knowing her pretty well, I realised something was wrong.
