8-8. Усложнение группы прилагательного

 

Для этого есть тоже довольно разнообразные возможности.

1. Предложная группа.

The doctors say that milk is good for you.
Be more accurate in your work.

2. That-клоз.

She is glad (that) you are not going abroad.

3. Wh-клоз (часто с предлогом).

I'm not sure why he wants it.
Не is doubtful (about) whether he can afford it.
We felt curious (as to) how he would receive the suggestion.
We were worried about where you had got to].

4. Инфинитивный оборот.

She was stupid to make such a mistake.
You were wrong to contradict the professor.

И также несколько вариантов сравнительных клозов.

Type 1: adjective+er + than + phrase/clause или more/less + adjective + than + phrase/clause:

Bill was sure he must guess something was up but he seemed [less suspicious than usual], perhaps because he was happier.
I did not want to go there if they were [poorer than we were].

Type 2: as + adjective + as + phrase/clause:

The last tinkle of the last shard died away and silence closed in [as deep as ever before].
It's a good place - I mean, [as good as you can get].

Type 3: so + adjective + that-clause

The murder investigation was [so contrived that it created false testimony].

Type 4: so + adjective + as + to-clause

And if anybody was [so foolhardy as to pass by the shrine after dusk] he was sure to see the old woman hopping about.

Type 5: too + adjective + to-clause

For larger systems the bundles of energy were [too numerous to be countable].

Type 6: adjective + enough + to-clause

The stairs wouldn't be [strong enough to hold the weight].
