2-17. Indefinite pronouns

 
Every, some, any и no образуют составные местоимения со словами one/body и thing (а также составные наречия с о словом where):

a everyone/everybody - all (the) people:
Everyone has heard of Elton John.

someone/somebody - a person:
Someone broke a window.

no one/nobody = no people:
The bar's empty. There's nobody in there.

If anyone wants to be a childminder, they must attend a course.
If I think someone is having problems, I will spend hours talking to them.

(После they всегда употребляется множественное число глагола, даже если they обозначает одного человека).

■ Хотя неопределенные местоимения each, every и any грамматически имеют единственное число, они относятся к группам людей:

I never avoid my obligations and I expect everyone else to meet theirs.
Each parent was sent an individual letter informing them of the situation.
We want every player to push themselves to get into the team.
