The last и the next могут употребляться как местоимения:

That's [the last we'll hear of it].
There's a narrow space between [our building] and [the next].

The same может употребляться как местоимение:

Give me the same again, please (не ‘Give me same again, please’.)
Why do you always try to do the same as your brother?
Joe and Carol went on a camping holiday, and we're going to do the same.
Another (или сочетание another one) можно употреблять в качестве местоимения:

Those cakes are wonderful. Could I have another (one)?

Other также можно употреблять в качестве местоимения (в этом случае есть и форма множественного числа – others):

I've got one lot of photos. Where are [the others]?
These are too small. Have you got [any others]?

Как правило, other(s) относится к существительным, которые уже упоминались. Исключением является выражение (the) others в значении (the) other people:

He never thinks of others.
Jake's arrived - I must tell the others.

Но нельзя сказать ‘On the telephone one cannot see the other’ или ‘He never listens to another’.
