1. В сложносочиненном предложении его части независимы и соединяются сочинительными союзами: I don’t like it and I don’t want it.

К основным сочинительным союзам относятся три:

and: He gave us instructions and we acted accordingly.
but: It's raining, but we'll go anyway.
or: Give him another cover or he'll be cold tonight.

2. К сочинительным союзам также относятся парные союзы:

Either we go immediately or I'll stay home.
He is not only handsome but also clever.
Neither the basketball team nor the football team is doing well.
Both the hockey team and the swimming team are doing well.
You must decide whether you stay or you go.
The more you practice dribbling, the better you will be at it.
